18/10 Flatware Sets - Your Choice - 6 Styles

Our Casa

Flatware isn't flat. Yeah. Figure THAT one out.

A fork? That's curved. A knife? That's ridged. A spoon? Yeah, right. The truth is, there's nothing in flatware that's actually flat. SO HOW THE HECK DID IT GET SUCH A NAME??

We tried to research it. Oh, we tried. Wikipedia avoids the whole issue by redirecting us to "cutlery" instead of offering any real answers. Googling "flatware" only brings up other, lesser sites from which flatware can be purchased, and that doesn't help us! Even the dictionary just says "whatever, Woot" and that seems both rude AND impossible!

So, honestly, we don't know why fancy people say "flatware" and sane people say "silverware" (even if it's not made of silver... which is a whole different conversation...) but we advise you go with this:

Just ask for forks and knives and assume they're going to bring a spoon with the dessert. It'll save us time and eventually the word "Flatware" will vanish from common use and it won't even matter. Thanks for your assistance in this.
